7 Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Books

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of these communities to the United States. Immigration from Asia began in the mid-1800s, and today people of AAPI descent make up 6% of the U.S. population, from 20 primary national and ethnic subgroups. Waves of immigrants from Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage have been met in their new home by two opposing tensions: the need for laborers to build the growing country, and racist policies of exclusion that led to routine and painful discrimination. These books tell the true stories of three Asian-Americans who made unique contributions to the country.
