Women's History Month is a time to commemorate and encourage the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. It began as a week-long event in 1981, authorized by Congress due to the advocacy of group now known as the National Women's History Alliance (NWHA), which saw that women and their achievements were unfairly omitted from history books.
