 As a young child, Rosita Dolores Alverio moved from Puerto Rico to the United States. While life in America had its hardships, like learning English and overcoming bullies, there were joys; her hardworking mother supported her love of singing and dancing. Rosita, now Rita Moreno, eventually made her way to Hollywood with a dream to be a star. There, she fought the challenges of being the first Puerto Rican film star, landing her iconic role in West Side Story and, finally, winning her groundbreaking Oscar. Age: early school age.
